Random Sketch

Hey all, 

Decided to muck about in Painter while at the office during one of the slow hours where I don't really have any work to do until they find some new way for me to be useful.

Just a really rough sketch of how I imagined Tonks (of Harry Potter fame) would look like when I first read her character and an old Gargoyles OC of mine. I've been promising myself to one day actually give her a decent drawing. Maybe I'll do one with her and Brooklyn (my fave Gargoyle). She looks like a teeny anime girl because MS Paint reminded me of the olden days when I used to draw in oekakis where I could find them with my mouse, which probably helped in making the horrible growth which caused never-ending pain inside my wrist I had to have surgery to remove. Still hurts to this day, especially when I drew this with just the mouse at the office since I didn't have my wacom handy.

I promise I'll get around to doing the large list of drawing ideas given to me by my lovely friends. I haven't really been getting that much sleep plus lack of money for actual drawing materials kind of makes me not even want to bother. (Yes, I know, I have a wacom and photoshop but god dammit I want to draw in traditional mediums again. I miss them terribly.)

Hey guys!

So, I got back from Orlando yesterday, it was overall a pretty fun trip but I'm happy to be back home and so is Bella (my golden retriever). She's sitting behind me in my room as I type this up looking all cute.
My family and I went to Universal and Disney during our trip to Orlando; gotta say, Universal kicks Disney's ass something fierce. My sis asked me to draw her a werewolf on my iPhone while we were waiting in the airport to board our plane. This is what I came up with. Fierce, ain't he?

Did a couple other drawings while we were waiting at the airport, nothing special. 

Universal has The Wizarding World of Harry Potter open and running and it is truly amazing, definitely a must see for any Potter fan. I lost my mind, as illustrated below. Note: When we arrived in Florida I was pretty tired because I hadn't slept very well the night before, so I was in zombie mode. Then we got to Universal and stood in front of Hogsmeade and my mood radically changed. The illustrations below are in no way an exaggeration of the events which followed.

                 

My mom asking where I disappeared to and wondering in her head how, my older sister and her friend Rory unable to come up with an answer and myself, running into Hogsmeade like a woman posessed.

They had practically everything. Zonko's Joke Shop, Honeydukes, The Three Broomsticks and The Hog's Head, they even included Ollivander's and Borgin's and Burke's from Diagon Alley which was nice. Of course, they had Hogwarts, that goes without saying. The butterbeer was ok, nothing really special, a little too sweet for my taste. Speaking of sweet, Pumpkin Juice was like drinking liquid sugar. It tasted lovely, but god damn there was way too much sugar in there. You could drink maybe 1/4 of this stuff and have filled up your body's sugar quota for the rest of your life. It was that sweet. 

The rides where PHENOMENAL!!!!!! Seriously, every Potter fan needs to visit Islands of Adventure and go to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, you will have the time of your life. :D

SketchBook for iPhone and Vacation time

So, I found this app for the iPhone/iPad/Mac called SketchBook. I was rather surprised to find that it was an app because I had heard of it before, a Photoshop-esque program with the ability to deliver a more realistic look. So, considering I had a $10 gift card to iTunes, I figured "Why not?" and bought the full app instead of the free version. It's pretty cool, I enjoy having the ability to sketch things without being confined to vector lines ALL THE TIME, I'm looking at you DoodleBuddy >:[
The sketches below were made using the SketchBook app on my iPhone.

Small simple sort of sketch of Margo from "Despicable Me", which was actually surprisingly entertaining and well made. I'd recommend it. 

I switched channels after "Despicable Me" and found that "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" was being shown on TNT. Yes, I like that movie. Anyway, there was a scene where she was standing just outside of one of the temples she ended up at after diving off of a waterfall and she struck this quick pose and I figured I'd try sketching it. The actual pose lasted all of 15 seconds. I'm pretty proud of this. 

And, of course, I had to try sketching a dragon, they are kind of my thing. Haven't quite figured it out yet but the base pose is relatively correct to what I see in my head. 

The downside is that I'm using my iPhone for it and its a really small screen so it's kind of hard to get used to but, I imagine it should be easier once I try quick-sketching people or actual objects in front of me instead of trying to sketch from imagination. Also, the save feature on the app needs some work; instead of being able to save your current sketch and be able to open a completely new one to start, you end up saving over all your old sketches once you've erased them. I'm not sure if there is a way to open a new sketch file on there but if there is I'll be editing this post as soon as I discover it. I'm planning on importing these into the SketchBook program I have on my Macbook to finish them up and make them look nicer. It's a thought.

Anyway, I'll be going to Orlando, FL this week with my family for a vacation of sorts. I'm not looking forward to the flight at all but it's two hours so it shouldn't be too bad. Just have to pack *notices that its currenly 12:47am* Joy.

So, after placing a link to >This Post< on my FB, Google+ and giving it personally to some friends, I gathered some responses. And what marvelous suggestions they were. Blogging instead of working...

Currently, I am at work. I should be doing what I'm being paid to do but unfortunately I woke up in a crap mood because I was waking up late because my god damn sister can't deal with the A/C being off for half an hour so I can wake up and get dressed. Been feeling more and more depressed as the day goes on, bah.

It is odd to notice that I've had this blog since 2007 and there's barely any art in it. I really should remedy that. As well as update my actual online portfolio.

Every time I try and draw anything though, it always turns out to be complete and total crap so I just give up. Which is probably the source of my problem, instead of going through a good portion of crap drawings to reach the well compositioned product I am aiming for I just toss everything aside. There's something that needs to be worked on.

I'm trying to save up enough to be able to afford a second monitor to connect my Macbook Pro to for when I actually do do digital artwork (and when I play games off my comp). Need to save up to build an actual comp too, debating just installing Mac OS on it and then doing Bootcamp so I can have both OS's on it. I dunno, might be more trouble to do than its worth.

I'm going to try and put up some sketches on here that I've been doing. Nothing impressive, just random doodles while at work or bored.

I'm going to try and find some old illustrations and drawings I did when I was in high school and maybe re-draw them as practice. Any thoughts?
