Animated Projects Re-dos

Hey guys.

I know, I know, I haven't posted anything in a while. I've been busy with personal matters lately and haven't really had a chance... Ok, that's a lie. I've had plenty of chances to draw new things or finish the previously posted images. Truth of the matter is I've been in a rut for a long time now and haven't been able to properly dig myself out of it. The details honestly don't matter because, quite frankly, it is not the business of the great wide web to know what's going on in my life. So let's just leave it at I haven't been feeling well for over a year and am attempting some changes in my life in order to remedy that.

So, I finally managed to get my hands on my first year film from SVA, which I thought I had lost to be completely honest. It wasn't until my mom phoned me asking me about a VHS she found with my name on it that I knew the film was actually at home under a pile of boxes somewhere. My mom had gotten into the habit of converting old family movies into DVD's and decided to convert this to DVD as well (Bless her). She tried sending it to me thru the post but somehow the file got erased from the disc, we have no idea how but I'm gonna go ahead and blame magnets. I've been home since Friday and remembered that my mom had an extra copy lying around somewhere, so I found it and copied the film onto my computer. I decided to upload it because after watching it I felt kind of proud of the little thing. I'm thinking of importing it into Flash and re-doing a good bit of the animation and adding a couple of scenes into it that I really couldn't do at the time because I was extremely ill.

The two characters featured here are Valdrake Rose and Dante. Original characters created by me and my older sister whose story is still being written.

I'm thinking of re-doing a couple of my old animated films and posting the originals up alongside the new ones just for comparison. Granted, there's probably only two I really plan on actually re-doing since one of the ones I have I don't really care for because it was a retarded project from my third year animation teacher (-_-;). The other one from that year is in my blog posts but I can't seem to find it anywhere else and have a sneaking suspicion that it is inside my broken portable external hard drive. Depending on how much it would cost to retrieve data from it I might be able to retrieve the contents and maybe that film along with it. We'll see what happens I guess.

Old Wallpaper Idea

I found this image while looking through my drawing folders in order to add more images to my portfolio (found here) and remembered I had a really cool concept for this and found myself wishing I had actually finished it. I plan on finishing the illustration as an actual digital painting, the first one I will have ever done to be completely honest. Just putting this up to get some feedback from a couple friends and anyone who wants to put up a comment.

Updated Lantern + Asian Monster

What? Three images!?!? Surely there must be some mistake here!

Nope, to be quite honest I am fairly surprised how much drawing I've been getting done lately.

Not quite a finished product yet. I plan on adding some shading and maybe some paiterly qualities to the image as well as some sort of background. Not entirely sure what yet, but it'll come to me... I hope.

A while ago over at Tonight We Draw one of the ideas submitted was "East Asian Monsters". I had no idea what I would do since my knowledge on East Asian Mythology is somewhat limited. Thankfully one of my friends lived in Japan for a time and has a ridiculous amount of knowledge on the subject of folklore and mythology. She suggested that I do what is known as a Bakeneko and while reading up on the creature (essentially a magical cat) one of the legends in particular caught my attention:

"Another famous bake-neko story is about a man named Takasu Genbei, whose mother’s personality changed completely after his pet cat went missing for many years. His mother avoided the company of friends and family and would take her meals alone in her room. When the family peeked in on her they saw a cat-like monster in the mother's clothes, chewing on animal carcasses. Takasu, still skeptical, slew what looked like his mother and after one day his mother's body turned back into his pet cat that had been missing."

I did mistake animal carcass for human carcass I am aware and aim to fix the mistake. However, it does seem interesting doesn't it? I might change the placement of her tail and play around with the pose a bit before actually going ahead and inking the piece.

Another piece for a submission over at Tonight We Draw. The subject chosen was "Everything I touch turns into gold." This was honestly the first image that popped into my head even before that was the set topic for the week/month. There's not really much else I can say about the piece, at least in terms of content. What I can say is that I'm extremely proud of her pose, which I created from my head without any point of reference, and the baby's pose as well. I did not use any reference for the baby either except of what I could remember from paintings and sketches I had seen from Classical Art Masters such as DaVinci and Raphael. Study your art history kids, it'll definitely come in handy in the future.
