Transformers Are Go

Ok, so going to the movies on a request from a friend yesterday actually turned out to be a really good idea.
I hadn't known that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen had come out recently, I wasn't really keeping track of a lot of things that have been going on lately for lack of want to know and just plain lazyness. So imagine my surprise when one of my friends told me they were going to go see it last night. I was surprised the movie had come out and disappointed that I wouldn't be able to go and watch it with them since they're all a couple states away from me and no car could ever get me there fast enough. My friend insisted I go see it the same time they went to go see it, so I made a deal that if I found a movie time for Transformers that was around the same period of time they were going to see it I'd go and we could geek out over the phone after. Now, I only did this because I was sure there couldnt possibly be a movie showing at the exact same time that my friends were going to their movie, right? ...Right?
There it was, staring me right at the face. 10:15 pm, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, at the movie theater not ten minutes away from me. I purchased the tickets and was out the door before I even knew what I was doing.
All I can really say for the movie without revealing anything is that it was amazing beyond even what I thought was possible. The new designs they had come up with for some of the Autobots were cool, but the designs for the various forms of the Decepticons were much much cooler. Sorry Autobots, but Decepticons just look cooler, especially the big cat one. (I was a bigger fan of Transformers: Beast Wars than I was of the original Transformers, hoorah for feeding my inner nerd and child all at once) It was also much more brutal than the first one, but that's all I have to say for now. My recommendation is to go see this film immediately while it's still in theaters, this is not something you want to wait the DVD (Or Blu-ray) release of.

Till next time...

Rough Day

So, no post yesterday. Had a bit of a rough day for more reasons than I really care to share. Not much to report as of yet today since I haven't really gone outside in a while to explore. I'm quite close to just giving up on searching for jobs since none of them have really contacted me back yet, but that's a whole different sort of rant not meant for this blog.
My subconscious is apparently better at coming up with story ideas than my conscious mind ever could be though. I have on my desktop a story I came up with and was telling to a friend of mine in a dream I had last night that I strained to remember completely before it slipped away back into my subconscious. Perhaps I'll post it on here to gain some sort of feedback from anyone who reads this. I promise I'll post up drawings on here soon as I am able and have new ones that I feel proud enough to post.
Might come back to this and add later, might not, we'll see.

Till next time folks.

Sparkly!!

Another day come, another day gone, and still no job for little old me. Every day brings me closer and closer to just offering up a blood sacrifice to whatever heathen gods may exist that would be appeased enough by said sacrifice in order to grace me with steady employment of decent pay. I haven't gone quite that mad yet though, so most small animals of a sacrificial nature are safe...for now. For those of you who may be interested in my day to day, here's a brief re-cap:
I finally got to sleep at around 8am (don't ask), woke up at 10:30am, reconsidered throwing my cel phone across the room (that's where the alarm was set from), got out of bed at 11am, cursed the world for gracing me with an inept sister who can't deliver her own damn mail or turn in important papers that are required so that her employers deem it fit to supply her with income, delivered said correspondances, got back, passed out, woke up again, currently my laundry is in the dryer and now Im sitting here in front of the computer typing up this desperate attempt at sanity.
Let's move on shall we?
While out on excursions to save my inept sibling from herself, I stopped by a Borders that I had passed on the way to delivering important papers to very very very far office building. For some reason which I still cannot explain, I decided to pick up Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer and re-discovered my great dislike for this woman's works of literature (now, when I say pick up, I don't mean I purchased the book, just say in Borders and read it.) Let's take a little bit of a backtrack before I begin though shall we? Yes, lets. So, after much hassling from some friends of mine about how amazing the Twilight series was, I decided to pick up the first three books and see what all of the fuss was about. Surely it could not be this great story everyone was ranting and raving about? Though, they weren't ranting and raving on the story so much as one or two characters in particular. The book in question is set in the town of Forks where every day is as cloudy and rainy as the last, beyond forks lies La Push, the local Indian Reservation as it were (we'll get to why La Push is relevant later). Enter Bella Swan, your typical Mary Sue for those of us who have been through fanfiction.net, for those of you not in the know on what a Mary Sue is here is the explanation:
"A fictional character with overly idealized and hackneyed mannerisms, lacking noteworthy flaws, and primarily functioning as wish-fulfillment fantasies for their authors or readers." -The Wiki
Essentially, character with no real self image and no real depth of personality more so than the author would like to give to said creation. Enter Edward Cullen, typical dead gorgeous cannot resist high school senior that no female within a high school can possibly go one day without seeing. Do we see where I'm going with this?
Obviously, Bella and Edward hook up, but not because they like each other, oh no, its because Bella just smells way too damn good. Not in the "You have the most lovely perfume on" way, more so in the "Somebody pass the steak knife Im starving" way. That's right folks, Edward is a vampire and he just can't help but think Bella is the most delicious smelling being he's ever come across. So much so that he doesn't want to eat her, oh no, he wants to date her and love her forever and ever and ever and ever...
Oh, here's the next kicker, you know how vampires traditionally have this little kink in their structure where if they so much as set one toe out in the sunlight they burst into flames? (Ok, bit of an exageration there, depends on who you read or watch, I know Joss Whedon bent the rules on the vampires in daylight thing more than once, but, ya know... it's Joss freaking Whedon. Nuff said.) Meyer's vampires? They sparkle.
I'm just going to give you a moment to take that in.
...
Ok, enough of a moment. Yea, they sparkle ever so gloriously in the light its something truly to behold. Now, I don't know about you, but my vampire steps out into the daylight, I'm expecting me some fireworks, not sparkles. Meyer in my opinion is nothing more than a glorified fanfiction writer, and that's a slight insult to some in the fanfiction community whose works I have read and found to be astounding and can never help wondering why they aren't being published.
Now, you must be asking yourself, why on earth would I endure three and a half books worth of this if I dislike it so? Well, that's because as much as I dislike the whole work, there were parts of it I admit were not ever so terrible. That and thanks to one of my friends, I now enjoy making informed opinions on literature, movies, and whatever other forms of entertainment there are just so I can say I do or do not like it for this and this reason while knowing what I'm talking about. You know who you are, and thanks (really, honestly, no joke, completely serious, Thank you.) As to the part of her novel that wasn't quite so bad? It's mostly the werewolves. If not just entirely the werewolves, or one werewolf in particular, Jacob Black. He's essentially the only character available with any sense of depth and understanding, him and the others in the werewolf pack and anyone who lives in La Push, Indian Reservation.
Meyer also lacks one of the most important qualities an author should possess, the ability to surprise your audience. You know, surprise? As in, I had no idea that was about to happen? Yea, never happens. All four books, the only time you will become genuinely surprised is in book four and that's what made me stop reading the book. You go through three books of no character development for anyone, no plot twists and no deeper story to look through. Overall, a very bland piece of literature.
There are many other sites, blogs, livejournals even devoted to explaining how awful Meyer's writing truly is and who can explain it in much further detail than I really care to. My favorite one however is this:
http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Twilight
Go ahead and saunter on over, it's quite the read let me tell you.
Now, I'm off to consume all the ice cream I can and enjoy watching Mirrormask, another awesome movie that was a collaboration between Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean, two of the most creative men I have ever seen. Do watch it when you get the chance.

Till next time!

P.S. Please click on the ads every now and then, some of them are actually rather interesting looking and it gives me moneys no matter how minimal the amount. Much obliged.

Siiillyyyyyy an jam!

So, didn't post anything yesterday because really there was nothing noteworthy to post about. And it was Sunday, Sunday is like international rest day for most of the world or some such nonsense like that, so that'll be my excuse for now.
There's not much that comes to mind in terms of discussions for the day since I spent a grand majority of it inside...cleaning...*shivers* Here's a small piece of advice to any number of you that may be reading and find this to be somewhat noteworthy, when the pile of dishes in your sink tends to begin overflowing the sink's capacity, it's way past the designated time where you had to actually go ahead and wash them. By now, the dishes have probably developed their own consciousness and are plotting your demise along with their diabolical plans to take over the world. All they have to determine is whether or not they'll let the laundry in on the scheme, the trash is all on it's own. It has no sense of hygiene whatsoever and plays host to more than a few unseemly vermin. Don't even get me started on the bathroom, please, I'll have enough nightmares as it is.
On the upside, after speaking to one of my already graduated friends about my fears on thesis, I may have some semblance of an idea on what to do. So, hoorah!
For now however, I'll go back to watching Coraline for the fourth time, for those of you who haven't seen it, please do. I suggest reading the book first and then going out and seeking most if not all of Neil Gaiman's published works. Might go deeper into my opinions on the greatness of that man tomorrow as well as other works of literature.

Ta-ta for now.
